A standpipe is a freestanding pipe fitted with a tap which can be installed outdoors to dispense water in areas which do not have a running water supply to the buildings.
Both our hydrant and fire hydrant standpipes are types of rigid water piping which can be built into multi-story buildings in a vertical position, or bridges in a horizontal position, to which hoses can be connected, allowing manual application of water to an area (such as a fire). Within the context of a building or a bridge, a standpipe can serve the same purpose as a fire hydrant.
Our standpipes come with double check valves, that help prevent any back siphonage, and therefore contamination of the water supply. We also carry standpipe keys. These keys are used to turn a water supply on and off.
Hoses we supply can be connected to the exposed ends of the standpipe. Black PVC contractor hoses allow the general application of water, using our hydrant standpipes, and our more heavy duty lay flat fire hoses are designed for fire hydrant standpipes and can withstand even higher water pressures. Our fire hose diffuser nozzles allow users to have more control of the water they use.
In the United Kingdom, an "Emergency Drought Order" permits a water company to shut off the primary water supply to homes, and to supply water instead from tanks or standpipes in the streets. This was done in some areas during the 1976 heat wave, for example.
Our standpipes are approved by the British Water Council.
